Steve De Boer Set to Retire in 2022 from N.W. Iowa Credit Union


The Board of N.W. Iowa Credit Union would like to announce that after a 41-year banking career of faithful service, N.W. Iowa’s CEO, Steve De Boer has announced his plans to retire in early 2022.

“Our team will work towards a smooth transition for members and employees, and I am excited to ring in a new year at the credit union before my retirement,” said Steve. “I am honored to have worked with a strong group of colleagues here at N.W. Iowa, who are truly committed to fulfilling the credit union philosophy of people helping people. Thank you to the N.W. Iowa membership for allowing me to serve you.”

During Steve’s tenure as CEO, N.W. Iowa continued to experience capital levels which remain well above regulatory obligation. Steve also worked closely with the Leadership Team and Board to develop a solid strategic plan which will navigate the credit union in the future.

“The Board of Directors is grateful to Steve for his perseverance and hard work, especially during these unprecedented times, and we wish him the very best in his retirement,” said Rich Sudtelgte, Chairman of N.W. Iowa’s Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors will immediately begin conducting a search to find its next CEO. The Board seeks a candidate with the expertise, passion, and commitment to move N.W. Iowa Credit Union forward in providing a financially strong credit union for our members, employees, and communities.

An open house to celebrate Steve’s retirement will be announced at a later date.

Position Summary:

The CEO will be responsible for:

· Directing and achieving the overall goals and objectives included in the strategic plan.

· Maintaining the financial health and stability of the credit union

· Mentoring and interacting with staff to foster growth and development

· Understanding and optimizing the “people helping people” philosophy

· Directing organizational change while building consensus.

· Developing, executing, and monitoring budget process for the credit union.

· Ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws, while working with the team and board of directors on all areas of risk management.

· Creating and sustaining an environment for team members that promotes a culture of empowerment, collaboration, and work/life balance.

Position Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree or higher in finance, management, or business administration preferred or equivalent work experience.

· 10+ years of executive experience within credit union field or financial services.

· Prior experience in financial institution lending.

· Credit Union management experience preferred.


Salary is commensurate with experience. An excellent competitive compensation package will be offered to the selected candidate.
